Van Gaal pleased with Lingard’s recovery from injury

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal is pleased with the progress of midfielder Jesse Lingard this season.

Lingard was a surprise starter for United on the opening day of the Premier League season but picked up a bad injury in the first half which has kept him out of action for the rest of the campaign since then.

It was a big blow to the youngster given he’d clearly impressed his new boss during pre-season. Lingard scored the winner against Liverpool in the International Champions Cup final and had done more than enough to convince Van Gaal of his talent.

Although Lingard is yet to even return to the U21s side, he was pictured training last week and the manager told MUTV he is ‘very pleased’ with the 21-year-old’s rate of recovery.

Lingard’s injury has put him out of contention with the first team but van Gaal’s faith in players such as Patrick McNair, Tyler Blackett and James Wilson will give Lingard hope of a return to the first team should he continue to impress upon his return to full fitness.

With United’s overall injury crisis failing to abate, Lingard has every chance of working his way back into the equation sooner rather than later.
