Former Manchester United striker Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has hailed the performance of David De Gea against Liverpool as the ‘best he’s ever seen’.
De Gea thwarted Raheem Sterling several times during the game before making several saves from half-time substitute Mario Balotelli. The most impressive of all coming when he tipped the striker’s shot on to the crossbar.
Solskjaer was speaking as a pundit on Sky Sports alongside Jamie Carragher and his comments echo another United legend. Peter Schmeichel said De Gea had been United’s best player this season and he further proved that point on Sunday afternoon.
Solskjaer added: “I’ve seen quite a few [outstanding performances] with the goalkeepers I’ve played with in [Peter] Schmeichel and [Edwin] Van der Saar but today was probably the best one I’ve seen at Old Trafford from a United goalkeeper.
“He saves them. There’s six clear-cut chances that should have been goals. He stands up, David Seaman was the same. He makes it very difficult to score against him.”
Jamie Carragher also had similar praise reserved for De Gea despite the fact he’d stopped Carragher’s former men from having any chance of walking away from Old Trafford with a win.
Solskjaer was sacked by Cardiff City earlier this season but was happy to pour praise on his former club in his latest role as a pundit.
