Daley Blind has responded to praise from Robin van Persie after the Manchester United pair both won awards at the 2014 Dutch Sports Gala this week.
Blind won the Best Athlete award whilst Van Persie’s diving header against Spain in the 2014 World Cup was voted for the Moment of the Year award. It was a successful night for United representatives on the whole as Louis van Gaal also won Coach of the Year.
Van Persie’s diving header was an iconic moment of the tournament but it was Blind’s pass that made it possible. The then Ajax man wasn’t well-known to English football at the time but his rise to fame and the faith shown in him by Van Gaal so the current manager bring Blind with him to England.
The United striker praised Blind for the vision he showed in setting up the goal and Blind responded with a promise to continue supplying the striker at Old Trafford.
“I’ll always treasure that moment,” Blind told Van Persie. “I hope I can supply you with more of those passes at our new club”.
Blind has been missing from action for over a month after picking up a knee injury during the last international break when Holland played Mexico in a friendly.
But the midfielder could be set to return over Christmas but may struggle to reclaim his place in the eleven given the form of Michael Carrick and Marouane Fellaini who are currently keeping Ander Herrera out of the starting line-up.
