Reece James happy to extend Rotherham loan

Reece James is looking for assurances from Manchester United on his future before deciding on whether or not to stay at Rotherham United for rest of the season.

James played a large part in United’s pre-season preparations after an early injury to Luke Shaw hampered his first few months at the club but the 21-year-old impressed by scoring two goals in a 45-minute cameo against LA Galaxy on his debut.

The re-emergence of Shaw plus the signing of Marcos Rojo saw James’ first team chances limited as the season went on and had to make do with a sole appearance in the League Cup against MK Dons in August.

The defender joined the Championship club last month and has drawn all three games he has been involved in but has seen his side concede just one goal during those matches.

But James is under no illusions to his slim chances of regular football at Old Trafford and he will sit down with the club to discuss the best outcome for both parties.

“There`s a conversation still to be had between me and Manchester United on what the best situation would be but if they say it`s a case of me being able to make the decision and I`m not going to go back there and be involved in the first team then I`d like to stay on here at Rotherham,” James told the South Yorkshire Times.

“It is going well. All the lads are high because of the football we have been playing I don`t know what the football was like before, but I’ve been told by some of the other lads that it`s a massive difference now.”

It may turn out to be the best thing for everyone if James stays at Rotherham, even with Luke Shaw and Marcos Rojo missing regular games, youngster Tyler Blackett or Ashley Young were both preferred as deputies to James.
