Darren Fletcher will always remain something of a cult-hero among Manchester United supporters but his importance to the squad is decreasing with every game.
Today was Fletcher’s first start since the opening weeks of the season and it lasted just 45 minutes. An abject performance saw him replaced by Tyler Blackett after the break.
Once Fletcher was a key part of United’s side, a big game player and a scorer of important goals, the dismay when he was ruled out of the 2009 Champions League final still lingers.
Given his illness and the resilience he showed in returning from his flights, supporters are reluctant to be too harsh but many realise he’s reached the end of the line.
I would be surprised if Fletcher starts another game in PL. Sadly, he's abs. finished as a player. Hope he moves on like G.nev did! #MUFC

I don't wanna disrespect Fletcher but I'd rather have someone else. His time is simply up and the earlier we part ways the better.

Pleasing to see LvG taking Fletcher off and moving Carrick further up. I think his next two could of been better though.

That has to be the end of Fletcher's United career, right?

Fletcher’s contract expires at the end of the season and despite his role as vice-captain, it’s hard to see a future for the Scotsman at Old Trafford.
Rumours persist that United may even try and cash in for the midfielder during the January window if somebody comes in with a bid.
