Rojo and Fellaini ruled out of Aston Villa game

Louis van Gaal has confirmed Marcos Rojo will miss Manchester United’s trip to Aston Villa this afternoon and Marouane Fellaini misses out through illness.

Rojo was left out of United’s squad to face Liverpool last weekend by Van Gaal as a precaution but has not been deemed fit enough to return today.

As for Fellaini, it will put an end to a series of consecutive starts for him under Van Gaal.

“Rafael is not injured,” Van Gaal explained yesterday.

“He was already fit last week, but I have to select and I have to compare.

“When I have more players fit, I have to select. You will have to wait and see, of course. I have to compare. Rafael? I can take him in the 18. Rojo? No. We have five injuries and one [Marouane Fellaini] is ill, so they are not coming up. Rojo has a rectus femoris [thigh] injury.”

Current reports suggest Darren Fletcher is set to deputise in Fellaini’s absence which also indicates Michael Carrick will once again play in defence.
