Van Gaal wants good Old Trafford form to continue

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal wants Old Trafford to become a fortress once again after the club encountered torrid home form under David Moyes.

Teams like West Brom, Sunderland, Everton and Newcastle recorded rare wins at Old Trafford under Moyes whilst Manchester City and Liverpool painfully brushed aside the reds 3-0.

Despite Moyes having the best away form in the league, Van Gaal has struggled to replicate that but has made Old Trafford a daunting place to come to again.

Swansea City won at the Theatre of Dreams on the opening day but United have dropped just two points at home since, winning games against QPR 4-0, Hull City 3-0 and sweeping aside Liverpool 3-0 in their last home game.

“We have made that already by winning a lot, I’m happy with that but we have to continue,” said van Gaal.

In recent years, Sir Alex Ferguson regularly had an exemplary record at home and the team would regularly sweep aside teams three or four nil around the time the club were reaching European Cup finals. In the 2010/11 season, despite not winning away from home until October but dropped just two points at Old Trafford all season.

With the club returning some pride to Old Trafford, supporters will be hoping they put another marker down against a side who walked away with three points this Friday.
