Van Gaal doesn’t mind festive period

Louis van Gaal doesn’t appear to be flustered by the Premier League’s festive schedule and actually believes it is good for his players.

United go into a busy period of four games in ten days starting with the upcoming home match against Newcastle United on Boxing Day. The side should have an advatage in freshness given van Gaal has allowed his players the day off on Christmas Day.

After that, United face three away games in a week, firstly against Tottenham and Stoke in the league before facing Yeovil Town in the FA Cup.

But van Gaal believes the hectic schedule is good for the players and even describes it as ‘fun’.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference, the manager said: “For a few players it is fun because they recover quickly. But their are others who aren’t.””

Initially the content of van Gaal’s point appeared ambiguous given the Dutchman’s continued struggle with the English language but it appears the manager is speaking about the likes of Marcos Rojo, Luke Shaw and Ander Herrera who surely won’t have to wait long for a first team appearance given the amount of games looming on the horizon.

With only Chris Smalling expected back this Friday, the other missing players will hopefully return against Tottenham, Stoke or in the FA Cup.
