The 19-year-old didn’t feature much for the U21s but played in both of their crucial European Championship play-off games which saw them qualify for the 2015 finals.
It’s a testament to Shaw’s influence in the side that he is up for a nomination having made so few appearances for Gareth Southgate’s side but it should help boost his confidence ahead of his return to Manchester United after a few weeks on the sideline through injury.
Shaw has been missing for Man United since injuring his ankle against Arsenal but made his return to training in the last week which was the next step in his rehabilitation towards a first-team return.
United have coped well in Shaw’s absence thanks to the consistently impressive form of Ashley Young but the makeshift left-back hasn’t fully replaced Shaw and United will certainly be stronger with the 19-year-old back in the side.
