Player Ratings: Tottenham 0-0 Man Utd – Mata shines on frustrating afternoon

by Richard Laverty

David de Gea 7 Had more to do than at Newcastle but did it with little fuss, another good game under his belt but will have tougher days.

Phil Jones 6 Looked good in overall play but once or twice showed the reasons why supporters don’t have full confidence in him. Another solid game for him though.

Patrick McNair 5 Not for the first time looked a bit caught in the headlights. Missed a few balls when swinging aimlessly to clear, composure will come with experience.

Jonny Evans 6 Better than his recent matches and looked a little more settled but will want to keep improving. Was subbed but no word on whether it was an injury.

Antonio Valencia 5 Failed to impact the game when United were on top in the first half but once again did well with his defensive duties. Was brought off injured at half-time.

Michael Carrick 7 Got caught out once or twice but played two delightful balls, one for van Persie which led to a chance in the first half and another round the corner for Mata after the break. Another solid performance.

Wayne Rooney 6 Didn’t get the freedom to go forward as he did against Newcastle, appeared frustrated but did well with his passing and tackling.

Ashley Young 8 Another good game at left wing back. Got forward with ease and defended well. Almost scored a superb effort but went missing a bit in the second half.

Juan Mata 9 Certainly performing consistently now and good to see him do it away from home. as majestic throughout with his touch and vision but should have scored the winner.

Radamel Falcao 6 Once again, movement and determination was all there, certainly lived up to this nickname but goals aren’t arriving, there’s a feeling they will.

Robin van Persie 5 Not his finest day, had the best chance of anybody in the first half and blazed over from close range in the second too. Hold up play a positive.

Substitutes

Rafael 5 A welcome 45 minutes but looked off the pace and didn’t add much to the game bar one cross to Mata. Will get better with games.

Chris Smalling N/A Slotted in as United changed systems but didn’t have a great deal to do.

Luke Shaw N/A Supporters will be pleased to see Shaw back but didn’t have a chance to influence the game, good to get minutes under his belt though.
