Carrick continues to show his importance to Man Utd

by Richard Laverty

Michael Carrick has always been a player that has caused many arguments among Manchester United supporters during his career at Old Trafford.

Carrick missed the opening months of Louis van Gaal‘s tenure in charge and United’s midfield struggled without him and his importance has been realised since his return.

Until the Aston Villa match last week, United had won six games in a row since Carrick’s return and are still unbeaten in 9, largely thanks to the return of the midfielder.

Carrick showed his class at times again vs Spurs and fans were quick to pick up on the qualities Carrick adds to the side.

One ball over the top in the first half opened up the hosts but Robin van Persie made a mess of what should have been the opening goal.

Another neat ball around the corner to Juan Mata was easy on the eye and once again led to van Persie having a chance to fire United ahead.

Carrick is now an ever-present influence in United’s team and his return has proved invaluable.
