As Manchester United draw a blank in the 0-0 draw with Spurs, the usual transfer talk rumbles on.
The Mirror run the headline that Real Madrid will demand David de Gea in any potential deal bringing Gareth Bale to Old Trafford. Manchester United have been credited with an interest in the Welsh superstar in the past few transfer windows and the rumours are persisting.
However, after such a big outlay on Bale and his habit of scoring in finals, the Spanish giants are unlikely to want to part way with one of their fairly new Galacticos. Additionally, United will likely be keen to tie De Gea to a new contract as soon as possible given that he is now one of the best goalkeepers in the world.
A player widely linked with a move to Old Trafford is Roma’s Kevin Strootman. He has now insisted he won’t use Roma as a stepping stone as rumours about his future continue to circulate. As covered in the International Business Times, Strootman has stated that he does not see Roma as “totally an intermediate step”.
Strootman returned recently having undergone reconstruction of his anterior cruciate ligament and has struggled for sharpness and form since his return. The Dutch midfielder did however outline that he feels playing in Italy will get him more recognition at the top level, compared to playing in the Eredivisie. This comes five days after an Italian agent stated that United will sign Strootman for around £32 million.
Nemanja Vidic has been linked with a return to United regularly over the past few months since struggling to find form at Inter Milan. The Daily Star are adamant that the Manchester club are keen on re-signing their former captain. Having left the club recently and showing poor form since moving to Italy it is unlikely that Louis van Gaal will see Vidic as the remedy to United’s defensive woes. However, United could look for defensive reinforcements in the January window.
In a story that will not come as much of a surprise to many United fans, The Sunday Express claim the club are going to miss out on long-term transfer target Wesley Sneijder as a return to Inter Milan looms for the Galatasaray star. Sneijder has been linked with a move to United for over four years with nothing ever materialising despite rumours a move was very close at one stage.
Norwegian wonderkid Martin Odegaard is continuing his tour of elite clubs as he lands in Manchester for trials with United, according to Norwegian outlet VG. Odegaard has been visiting many of Europe’s top clubs as he prepares to make a decision on where to base his future, it was widely rumoured last week that Bayern Munich had stolen a lead in the race to sign the starlet.
The Sunday Express are further crediting United with an interest in Barcelona’s midfield linchpin Sergio Busquets as he begins contract talks with Barcelona. However, Chelsea are supposedly leading the way in the race for the Spaniard’s signature.
The transfer window will open officially on 1st January 2015 and the rumour mill will undoubtedly ramp up throughout the month, with Manchester United possibly involved in some business.
