Andy Mitten: Bale to United makes sense

by Richard Laverty

United We Stand fanzine editor Andy Mitten believes a deal to take Gareth Bale to Old Trafford could benefit Manchester United and Real Madrid, as well as the player himself.

Bale has been extensively linked with United in recent weeks and was linked with a move to the club back in 2013 when David Moyes tried to bring him to the club before he left for Spain.

Despite denials from Madrid on the possibility of Bale leaving, Madrid have a track record for allowing their top players to leave if another target comes on the horizon.

That exact scenario happened after the World Cup when Angel Di Maria was allowed to leave the club in order for Madrid to sign James Rodriguez off the back of an impressive tournament with Colombia.

For that exact reason, Mitten believes Florentino Perez could be willing to sell in order to bring their next blockbuster signing, Marco Reus from Borussia Dortmund.

With FFP now in play, Madrid could be attracted by the possibility of making a profit on Bale and could try to get David de Gea in exchange for the Welshman.

Whilst United supporters may prefer to see the reported £100m fee spent on a couple of top class defenders and midfielders given the team’s deficiencies this season, Bale would be exactly the kind of signing to take the club back to the level the fans demand.

Here at The Peoples Person, we’ll be asking readers for their opinion on any potential move for Bale during the next few weeks.
