Man Utd boost as Bojan ruled out of Stoke game

Manchester United have been handed a major boost ahead of their New Year’s Day clash with Stoke City after Bojan was ruled out with a hamstring injury.

Mark Hughes confirmed in his press conference on Tuesday that Bojan might be out but it now appears the tricky Spaniard is definitely out of the game.

However, Bojan will miss the United game and is also expected to miss Stoke’s FA Cup match against Wrexham this weekend.

Whilst the loss is a huge blow to Stoke, it’s a major boost to Louis van Gaal and United given the Spaniard’s recent form.

After initially struggling to settle at the Britannia Stadium, Bojan has been in superb form lately, grabbing important goals against both Arsenal and Everton and has been influential in Stoke’s improved form.

With United’s defenders returning one by one, van Gaal may have been more confident than usual of handling Bojan either way but his loss should give his side some breathing space.

However, it may mean a more direct approach in what are expected to be difficult conditions, especially with Jonathan Walters expected to return to Stoke’s side for the United game.

Van Gaal though can call upon the returning Rafael, Luke Shaw and Chris Smalling who all made substitute appearances against Spurs on Sunday.
