Man Utd continue to hold Premier League influence in starting XI

Manchester United’s starting XI has a strong Premier League influence according to a graphic released after Sunday’s game against Tottenham Hotspur.

The image in question replaces names on the team sheet with the club badges where that specific player arrived from.

The amount of Premier League clubs, United includes, is impressive and it’s easy to forget foreign stars such as Robin van Persie and Juan Mata were Premier League buys.

Wayne Rooney, Michael Carrick and Ashley Young also arrived from other Premier League clubs whilst the defensive trio of Phil Jones, Patrick McNair and Jonny Evans similar cases, the latter two both coming through United’s own academy.

Luke Shaw and Chris Smalling coming off the bench continued that theme and the running statistic that United have at least one youth player in every squad since 1937 still stands as of Sunday’s game.

The list on the right hand side does show however that a lot of United’s recent foreign imports are missing from action. Angel Di Maria, Ander Herrera, Marcos Rojo and Daley Blind are all injured whilst but the bench further shows United’s pulling power within the country.

Louis van Gaal has also handed debuts to he likes of Tyler Blackett, Tom Thorpe and further appearances to James Wilson this season despite being questioned after selling home-grown players in Tom Cleverley and Danny Welbeck.
