Rafael will have to undergo an operation on his fractured cheekbone which he suffered against Yeovil Town.
The Brazilian defender played on with the injury but was substituted at half-time alongside Luke Shaw who was also injured and Louis van Gaal confirmed the extent of Rafael’s injury to the press after the game.
It’s yet another injury setback for Rafael who has had his fair share already this season.

At this stage there is no confirmation as to whether the injury will keep Rafael out of action or if he will be able to play with a face mask but regardless of that, fans are getting very frustrated at how often Rafael suffers injuries.
An impact injury like this is unlucky for Rafael but he left pre-season with an injury and has already had others at various points, so questions are continuing to be asked about his future at the club if only because he seemingly cannot stay fit.
