Van Gaal happy with players returning from injury

Manchester United could have both Marcos Rojo and Daley Blind back for this weekend’s game against Southampton.

The duo have been missing from action due to lengthy absences but Louis van Gaal seems certain both are on their way back and could return for a big game against the Saints.

Southampton’s win against Arsenal puts them right behind United in the league but another home win would put van Gaal’s side clear of both.

Injuries to Rafael, Luke Shaw, Ashley Young and Antonio Valencia over Christmas have once again frustrated fans and the manager so two defenders coming back is a boost.

“We can be very happy because the players are coming back now,” van Gaal explained. “Angel Di Maria is coming back, Daley Blind is coming back, Marcos Rojo is coming back.

“So we have more left-footed players, and that we need also. I have to solve every week another problem, and now during a match.”

Some reports suggest Blind could be rushed back this weekend to play at left-back should Shaw miss out with a recurrence of an ankle injury whilst Rojo could play at centre-back with one of Phil Jones or Chris Smalling shifted to the right.

The severity of Antonio Valencia‘s thigh injury is unknown but Rafael could return if he wears a face mask to protect against the fractured cheekbone he suffered against Yeovil on Sunday.
