Man Utd transfers – Johnstone confirmed, Valdes agreed and others could follow

by Sam Peoples

After a slow couple of days with the beginning of the new year, Manchester United’s January transfer window is beginning to pick up in pace.

The first officially confirmed deal of the window saw Sam Johnstone agree a loan extension with Doncaster Rovers that will keep him at the League One side until the end of January. There is of course the possibility of extending it for the full season.

Now, Victor Valdes has agreed a deal to join Man United. Speculation linking the 32-year-old goalkeeper with a permanent move has been rife since he arrived at Carrington in October after being invited by Louis van Gaal to rehabilitate his knee.

Valdes’ arrival places further doubts over the future of Anders Lindegaard and Ben Amos. Current reports suggest Van Gaal has told the duo they are free to look for a new club and Valdes’ arrival less than 24 hours after those stories broke indicates that is indeed the case.

That’s four deals which could be agreed in January and there are also other possibilities including Nick Powell going out on loan again as well as Anderson leaving on a permanent deal as well as Tom Cleverley.

As always, we’ll keep you up to date with the latest transfer news as and when it happens.
