Thiago Motta is seeking an exit from France after falling out with Paris St Germain officials, report L’Equipe.
The 32-year-old midfielder is said to be unhappy with management and has issues with how he is being treated in comparison to others, which sounds like a classic case for a footballer who feels he is undervalued at a club. There are also reported issues with how PSG didn’t defend Motta in the media after allegations he was causing trouble in the dressing room.
Man United come into the equation because his agent Dario Canovi has blasted PSG’s management and pointed out that Motta could move to a club like United as he would be in demand.
“Nobody at PSG has decided to defend Thiago Motta after an article in a French newspaper, so my son pointed out that if the problem is him, we could talk about those who need a midfielder like Thiago,” Canovi said.
“And many seek an important midfielder like him. Inter, AC Milan, Manchester United and Real Madrid where there is Ancelotti who knows him well.”
Would United have a purpose for Motta? As far as strengthening the squad goes, he’d certainly be a better choice than Darren Fletcher who has lost his edge after returning from his battle with ulcerative colitis.
Motta wouldn’t get into the squad ahead of Daley Blind or Michael Carrick either and the Italian would probably not want to be third choice anyway, but it’s interesting to hear his agent so freely linking United to him. It could just be a classic case of his agent using United’s name to put pressure on PSG to act.
