Man Utd have bid for Mats Hummels – report

by Richard Laverty

Manchester United have made a bid for Borussia Dortmund defender Mats Hummels and Louis van Gaal ‘insists’ that he joins the club this month.

Reports in Italy surfaced this week which suggested Hummels had been the subject of a bid from Old Trafford but it’s clear Dortmund don’t want to lose another key player, especially in January and whilst in the middle of a relegation battle.

Dortmund’s position in the Bundesliga is almost unbelievable but it should help United push through a move with Hummels seemingly unhappy with his club’s recent form.

Italian journalist Gianluigi Longari was the man who confirmed a bid had been made and explained himself further to SportWitness this week.

“The proposal belongs to a couple of days ago. Borussia Dortmund doesn’t want to give him. Manchester United will insist because he’s the priority for Louis van Gaal,” said Longari.

The bid hasn’t been covered elsewhere but when further questioned, Longari was firm in his statement about United bidding for Hummels.

It appears another tug of war is about to break out between the two clubs given United were seemingly in for the defender during the summer after Van Gaal first arrived at the club.

With Hummels seemingly a top target and Van Gaal desperate to land a top defender this month, the story is destined to rumble on and on and will certainly continue through to the summer should United fail to land their man this month.
