Manchester United midfielder Angel Di Maria is officially one of the best players in the world according to the UEFA Team of the Year for 2014.
After weeks of voting, Di Maria was the only Premier League representative in a side dominated by Madrid’s Champions League stars, Atletico’s La Liga heroes and Germany’s World Cup winners.
Indeed, Di Maria played a huge role in Real’s tenth Champions League success before moving to United and instantly shining in the Premier League.
The Argentinian scored three goals in his opening four appearances for the club and also shone for Argentina as his national side marched to the World Cup final, in which Di Maria missed due to injury.
Despite spending most seasons going underrated due to the brilliance of Cristiano Ronaldo and excitement over Gareth Bale, Di Maria was the star man as Real swept aside rivals Atletico in the Champions League final last May.
After United signed him for a club record fee, Di Maria has found himself the centre of attention at Old Trafford and has had no problems settling to life in England, returning against Yeovil last week to seal a 2-0 win with a classy finish.
Ex-red Ronaldo was also in the side along with last season’s key target Toni Kroos, now a team-mate of Ronaldo’s in Spain.
