Louis van Gaal has explained his decision to leave Radamel Falcao out of Manchester United’s side was simply down to resting him.
Falcao had started five consecutive games for Man United and was beginning to look much fitter but Van Gaal felt today was the right time to leave the Colombian out of the match-day squad to recuperate.
It was a decision which ultimately backfired for Van Gaal because Robin van Persie was forced off with what looks like an injury and United simply didn’t have any attacking threat. For the first time since May 2009, United didn’t register a shot on target in a game at Old Trafford.
Falcao was pictured at Old Trafford in his club suit so the Colombian was in and around the stadium and United fans are certainly confused as to the logic behind leaving Falcao out of the squad altogether.
If Van Gaal did want to give him a rest then he could still have kept Falcao on the bench but decided against it and it was a decision which certainly contributed to United’s poor attacking performance.
