Sam Johnstone recalled from Doncaster Rovers loan

Doncaster Rovers have confirmed that Sam Johnstone has been recalled by Manchster United from his one-month loan spell at the League One club.

Given that Johnstone was enjoying an excellent loan spell at Doncaster this season, it comes as a surprise to hear news about him being recalled from loan.

Johnstone renewed his Doncaster Rovers loan only last week and reports are suggesting his recall is due to interest from Preston North End in signing Johnstone on a permanent move.

Johnstone kept four clean sheets in his last eight appearances with Doncaster and having been loaned out to the League One side in a previous season as well, he became a bit of a fans’ favourite so the Doncaster fans will be sad to see him leave.

It’s unlikely Louis van Gaal has recalled Johnstone to join United’s first-team squad given the recent acquisition of Victor Valdes, so either he wants Johnstone to play U21s football again or a permanent move is being lined up in January.

Update: Sam Johnstone has now joined Preston North End on loan until the end of the season.
