Manchester United defender Luke Shaw was given a surprising reception when he lined up against his former club Southampton on Sunday.
Boos could be heard early on from the away section inside Old Trafford when Shaw was on the ball and his former fans wasted no time in letting the left-back know what they thought of him when he was subbed off.
Chants of “you fat b***ard” and “what a waste of money” could be heard from Southampton’s support as they appeared to revel in the fitness issues surrounding Shaw during his time at Old Trafford.
Shaw was a Southampton player from the age of eight and became crucial to the side that became a Premier League force last season, so it’s a big surprise to hear travelling fans give him treatment like that.
Shaw subbed off. Saints fans sing “you fat b*stard” and “what a waste of money”. Did not expect that.

It’s also odd given Calum Chambers returned to his former home over Christmas with Arsenal and wasn’t given the same reception afforded to Shaw at Old Trafford on Sunday.
Southampton didn’t face former player Adam Lallana at Anfield on the opening day but it will be interesting to see if the former attacker is given a good or a bad reception when he returns to St. Mary’s later this year.
