Manchester United are being credited with a renewed interest in Southampton midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin.
The 25-year-old French midfielder was in very impressive form against Man United at Old Trafford last weekend and has been in imperious form for Southampton all season.
Schneiderlin was first linked with United back in April but, despite the exodus from Southampton in the summer, stayed on and has built on his great form last season to become one of the Premier League’s most consistent midfielders.
As Roma are playing hard-ball with Kevin Strootman, the Express report that United are considering a £25m bid for him and have run the story as their back page splash in print today.
Gary Neville is a big fan of Schneiderlin and after his performance at Old Trafford, said he believed he was good enough to play for any Premier League side: “I think he could play at any of the top clubs in the league, Chelsea, Manchester City, Manchester United or Arsenal – he’s showed his quality this season,” he said.
“You look at Schneiderlin and Fonte today, there was no sweat on them. They’re composed and organised.”
Although new defenders are the priority for United, a midfielder of Schneiderlin’s quality could add so much protection for the defence like he did against United, so it wouldn’t be the biggest surprise in the world if Louis van Gaal was to make a move for Schneiderlin.
