Here is today’s Manchester United transfer news and gossip.
Mats Hummels continues to be linked with a move to United. Speculation surrounding United’s interest in the Borussia Dortmund star has been ongoing for a number of months and with the transfer window now open, the speculation has intensified. The well documented struggles of Dortmund could lead to some of their big names leaving the club, with Hummels often touted as one of those players. United require a talented, experienced centre back and Louis van Gaal is a fan of the German star. Whether United can tempt Hummels to Old Trafford as soon as January remains to be seen.
Morgan Schneiderlin will wait until the summer to decide on his Southampton future. After an impressive display against United in Southampton’s victory at Old Trafford, speculation linking United with a move for Schneiderlin has resurfaced. United were linked with a move for The Saints’ midfield star last summer, as covered by The Peoples Person, but it proved to be nothing more than speculation.
Schneiderlin’s performance against United last weekend brought rave reviews from former United captain Gary Neville. However, Schneiderlin looks set to see out the remainder of the season at St. Mary’s before addressing his future in the summer, when a host of clubs are likely to be interested in securing his services.
Paul Pogba will leave Juventus eventually according to his agent Mino Raiola. Speculation of Pogba leaving Juventus has persisted for over a year and United have often been credited with a serious interest in bringing their former player back to Old Trafford, even with the £77m price tag in the press.
Now, it looks very possible that Juventus could lose their young star sooner rather than later. Pogba has also been quoted recently in FourFourTwo talking about his affection towards United: “It was the feeling that I had. The coach had faith in me, but didn’t put me on. He said that I was too young. He said: ‘Your time will come.’ It didn’t come. But it doesn’t mean I will speak ill of Manchester United. I love the club.” Van Gaal may look to use Pogba’s feeling towards United in an attempt to lure the French star back to Manchester.
The future of Radamel Falcao remains in doubt with reports suggesting a move to Juventus could be on the cards. Jorge Mendes has insisted that his client will be playing for one of the best teams in the world next season, whether it is United or not remains to be seen.
Will Keane is a target for both Reading and Blackpool. United’s 21-year-old striker is reportedly wanted by both Championship sides in a bid to strengthen their attacking options. Keane has been on fine form for United’s U21 side but has not forced his way in to first team plans. It could be a valuable chance for Keane to get first team experience at a slightly higher level.
