Robin van Persie set to miss QPR match with ankle injury

Robin van Persie is likely to miss Manchester United’s game against QPR this weekend with an ankle injury, report The Guardian and Daily Mail.

The £24m striker was substituted during Man United’s 1-0 defeat to Southampton at Old Trafford on Sunday and walked straight down the tunnel with what looked like a suspected ankle injury.

While reports suggest Van Persie hasn’t suffered anything serious, it means he is set to be unavailable for the trip to QPR.

With Radamel Falcao waiting in the wings for another opportunity, Louis van Gaal won’t be short of attacking options this weekend but he will be concerned about how long Van Persie could be out for.

Van Persie started off the season very slowly after coming back from an extended break after the World Cup and had re-found some goalscoring form as of late but this setback is another blow to his season.

Van Gaal could give an update on Van Persie’s injury at this week’s press conference on Friday.
