QPR vs Man Utd: Potential 4-3-3 – Di Maria as winger

by Sam Peoples

We’ve got a bit sick and tired of looking at 3-5-2 and 4-4-2 diamond formations this week, so for our last potential formation ahead of QPR on Saturday, we’ve gone for a 4-3-3.

Louis van Gaal‘s bread and butter formation is 4-3-3. It’s what he has used traditionally at Bayern Munich and Barcelona and he has used it once with Man United. Guess what? They won.

The main sticking point for the 4-3-3 is that it relies heavily on pace to burst forward and although Angel di Maria offers that on the left flank, Juan Mata has a tendency to slow the game down to play delicately. That being said, he’s still a better option there than Antonio Valencia.

Playing Daley Blind and Michael Carrick would also give some defensive solidarity to the side and a flat back four would be a welcome reprieve from the dynamic disaster which a back five presents.

With nine points dropped in the last five games, something has to change. What’s the worst that could happen?
