Rio Ferdinand singles out Diego Godin for Man Utd

Rio Ferdinand has singled out Diego Godin as a defender Manchester United should be looking at to strengthen their defence.

Godin was in action with Atletico Madrid last night against Real Madrid in the Copa Del Rey and Atletico came out victors having beaten their bitter rivals on aggregate.

At the heart of Atletico’s defence, Godin was the leader and it is a position he played so well last season in their La Liga triumph, so he’s got plenty of experience under his belt.

Such was his good form last year, some felt Godin’s omission from the FIFPro World XI was harsh, especially when David Luiz, who played a key role in Germany’s 7-1 humiliation of Brazil as captain, was selected.

Godin is a player who has been heavily linked with Man United and he would certainly be an improvement on the current options in the squad, that goes without saying.

Rio Ferdinand may have lost his legs by the time he left United but what he brought to the squad was a wealth of experience which United have so far failed to replace. The arrival of Godin would go some way to remedy that.
