Man United to demand Bale if De Gea leaves – report

by Richard Laverty

Manchester United will make sure they get Gareth Bale as part of any deal that takes David de Gea to Real Madrid, says the Sunday People’s Steve Bates.

Rumours persist that the Champions League winners will come sniffing for United’s star man sooner rather than later and could get him for a cut-price deal should the 24-year-old not sign a deal at Old Trafford.

Whilst United remain confident he will, it could be as much about getting a higher fee for the goalkeeper than an actual sign his future lies permanently in Manchester, despite de Gea stating he’s happy at the club.

It has become common knowledge that David Moyes was desperate to bring Bale to Old Trafford when he left Spurs and Bates believes United will try to get one of their key targets should Madrid make a bid and Madrid have vice versa stated they won’t let Bale go without de Gea in return.

Bates has become a regular mouthpiece for United supporters this season regarding early team news and given he clearly has good contacts at Old Trafford, the story should certainly be taken seriously.

The same article states United have told Madrid they value de Gea at £50m – a potential world record fee for a goalkeeper. With Victor Valdes signed, it could be that United have got a free replacement and will gain a world class winger should de Gea leave either this summer or next.
