Man United have €35m bid for Nicolas Otamendi rejected

Manchester United have had a €35m bid for Valencia centre-back Nicolas Otamendi rejected.

Sky Sports’ Guillem Balague reports the bid has been turned down by the Spanish side and newspaper Super Deporte have covered it on their front page and also have a supporting article.

Super Deporte report that Valencia have no intention to sell and that Otamendi has no desire to leave the club either.

This is not the first time Man United have been linked with a January move for Otamendi as back in 2014 when he was still at FC Porto, reports said a €15m bid for him was rejected.

Any bid underneath Otamendi’s reported release clause of €50m leaves United in a position where they have to negotiate with Valencia and as they were taken over by billionaire Peter Lim in May 2014, they do not need to raise cash by selling players. That means United could be forced to match any release clause and if was indeed the €50m fee reported, it would make Otamendi the most expensive defender ever if a move was agreed.
