Fans’ view: Should Man United keep or sell Evans, Smalling and Jones?

by Richard Laverty

Chris Smalling, Phil Jones and Jonny Evans have all shown varying degrees of potential during their time at Old Trafford but injuries to the trio have been big hurdles for their progress.

Evans has probably struggled the most this season and has come under a lot of criticism from fans for some woeful performances, whilst fans believe Jones and Smalling still have time on their sides.

Both have put in world class performances since joining in 2011 and 2010 respectively but equally so they have also shown an immature side which supporters hoped may have gone away with age.

Smalling came in for plenty of criticism after a red card in the Manchester derby whilst Jones’ all round clumsiness and proneness to injuries continues to frustrate supporters.

With that in mind, we asked Man United fans whether they think Evans, Jones and Smalling have a future at the club. Here’s what they had to say:

At 27, supporters don’t seem to wish to afford Evans any more time given his performances have constantly slipped since his emergence in 2009.

As for Jones and Smalling, whether either player would be any more talented now had it not been for injuries will never be known but the harsh reality is all three could be shipped out by Van Gaal this summer.
