Joe Rothwell joins Blackpool on loan

Joe Rothwell has joined Blackpool on loan from Manchester United until the end of the season.

The 20-year-old midfielder has enjoyed some great progress over the last 12 months both with Man United and England’s U20s and now has the opportunity to prove himself out on loan at a Championship side.

Rothwell had been training with Man United’s first-team under the guidance of Louis van Gaal back in December and obviously impressed enough to earn a loan move.

He put in some great performances for the U21s earlier this season including a brace in a 5-0 win over Blackburn Rovers in the Lancashire Senior Cup.

Rothwell becomes the second midfielder to complete a move this window as fellow U21s team-mate Ben Pearson also joined League One side Barnsley on a loan deal, albeit a one-month temporary deal rather than until the end of the season.

As long as Rothwell gets game time at Blackpool, it will be a good experience for him and should mean he returns to Man United in the summer as a more developed player. We’ll be keeping track of his progress.
