Bale: I’m happy at Real Madrid

by Richard Laverty

Gareth Bale has poured cold water on rumours linking him with an exit from Real Madrid and said he can’t imagine playing for Manchester United next season.

Speaking to AS in Spain, the Wales international was asked about joining United in the summer after rumours surfaced Madrid may be willing to part with him in order to sign Marco Reus.

It is also thought Florentino Perez would sacrifice Bale if it meant securing the signature of David de Gea from United, and both clubs have suggested one won’t leave without the other arriving.

Bale was a target of Sir Alex Ferguson’s when at Southampton and of David Moyes when he left Spurs and it now appears Louis van Gaal also wants the 25-year-old but Bale appears happy in Spain.

When asked whether he could see himself at Old Trafford next season, Bale said: “For me, no.

“Recently I did an interview and I said I’m happy here, I’ve got several years left on my contract and I’m having a good time. We’re winning trophies and I want to stay here.”

Whilst United’s new found financial strength may force Madrid into a sale if they want to obtain key targets such as de Gea and Reus, van Gaal will more than likely wait a year for Bale and concentrate on strengthening his defence and midfield this summer.
