Man United loan watch: Zaha impresses, Keane makes debut, Hernandez frustration

by Phil Shearer

Wilfried Zaha put in an impressive display as Crystal Palace knocked Southampton out of the FA Cup. Zaha played the full 90 minutes in the eventful 3-2 win, causing Southampton real issues with his pace and skill.

This quality performance follows on from Zaha’s good performance against Burnley the previous week. With Yannick Bolasie on duty in the African Cup of Nations, Zaha appears to have relished stepping up for Alan Pardew’s side.

Will Keane made his debut for Sheffield Wednesday last night in their 0-0 draw against Birmingham City. He was replaced after 75 minutes and suffered a bloodied nose for his troubles.

Tom Cleverley also completed 90 minutes as Aston Villa defeated┬áBournemouth 2-1 in the FA Cup. Cleverley put in his usual hard working shift but continued to offer little of real value to Paul Lambert’s side. Cleverley is yet to score or assist in his time at Aston Villa and has not impressed with less than half of the season left to play. Cleverley and Aston Villa’s other midfielders have been widely criticised for their abject form and the resultant affect on Villa’s results.

Javier Hernandez continued to warm the bench at Real Madrid as he watched Real Madrid secure a 2-1 victory over Cordoba. It is fixtures against teams such as Cordoba that Hernandez will have expected, at the least, to be involved in. He has struggled to make any impact under Carlo Ancelotti and rarely sees any significant game time.

Nani played the whole game as Sporting Lisbon beat Academica 1-0. The Portuguese winger has been on good form for Sporting, scoring and getting an assist in their last outing. However, in this game Nani was only capable of flashes of skill, struggling to have any significant impact on the game.

Ben Pearson completed 90 minutes as Barnsley slipped to a 2-0 defeat at the hands of MK Dons. Pearson was solid at the heart of midfield, and his side were only defeated by two goals in quick succession from MK Dons, who sit 15 places above Barnsley in League One. The on-loan United midfielder picked up a yellow card towards the end of the game.
