Andreas Pereira’s father welcomes PSG interest

Andreas Pereira‘s father Marcos has admitted his son would be interested in a move to Paris St Germain if Manchester United cannot agree a new contract with him.

As it stands, Pereira doesn’t know if he has a future at Old Trafford after turning down an initial contract offer in recent weeks and negotiations for a new deal are currently on-going.

However, the Belgian-born Brazilian youngster should be pleased with the progress he has made under Van Gaal. Good form for the U21s side at United allowed him to make his debut against MK Dons in August and he has since been named on the bench several times, having continued to train with the first-team.

Why Pereira rejected the first contract offer is yet to be revealed but quotes from his father suggest he wants assurances over his playing time.

“We don’t even know if PSG have had contact with Manchester United,” Marcos Pereira said.

“My son wants to play. United is one of the biggest clubs in the world, but if they want to sell him now, PSG would be a good club.”

As well as an apparent offer from the French champions, AC Milan are also said to be monitoring Pereira’s situation in Manchester.

Comments from Pereira’s father Marcos will certainly put pressure on Man United as the public nature of these quotes give PSG a reason to step up their interest now they have been given a foot in the door.

Rejecting a first contract offer isn’t all too rare in football but there will be concerns if Pereira was to reject further approaches from United and it may cast doubt over his future at the club.
