Herrera praises Carrick’s quality

Ander Herrera has praised Manchester United team-mate and fellow midfielder Michael Carrick.

Speaking to MUTV, Herrera claimed the United vice-captain was one of ‘best players’ he’d ever played with and praised his calmness on the ball.

Herrera arrived at Old Trafford in the summer after Louis van Gaal gave his approval on a deal to bring the Spaniard to the club which had already been set up by David Moyes.

Ironically, Carrick’s return from injury in October and subsequent form has kept Herrera out of the line-up and he hasn’t started a Premier League game since the start of November, but the Spaniard had nothing but good things to say about the 33-year-old.

“He always gives us calmness; he’s a very calm guy when he’s playing. He gives me confidence,” says Herrera.

“He is very good for the young players because he always tries to help, not necessarily with words but with his attitude and his calmness.

“He is one of the best players I’ve ever played with and a very good professional,” adds the Spaniard. “We can all improve by looking at him and what he does. I feel lucky to play with him.”

The midfielder impressed in his only other start of late against Yeovil Town, scoring a superb goal and Herrera also scored in the corresponding fixture against Leicester back in September.

With Carrick now out for a month with a muscle injury, Herrera could find himself in the starting line-up in a league game for the first time in almost three months.
