Player Ratings: Man United 3-1 Leicester – Blind shines

by Richard Laverty

David de Gea 7 Another quiet-ish game although reacted well when Phil Jones left him in trouble. Could do little about Wasilewski’s late goal.

Antonio Valencia 5 Whilst unspectacular, showed the solidity and reliable side of him which has seen Louis van Gaal prefer him to Rafael. Supporters would like more attacking threat though.

Phil Jones 5 Leicester didn’t particularly trouble United’s defence yet Jones was still prone to a few moments of madness. Sadly we didn’t get to see more of his corners.

Marcos Rojo 6 Another solid performance from the man warming himself to the hearts of supporters. His fearless approach has been missed during his absence and is continuing his improvement.

Luke Shaw 6 Settled nicely back into the team, got forward well and aided United’s attacks although his crosses need to be better. More positive signs from the 19-year-old though.

Daley Blind 8 A class above back in his regular position. His positioning is superb and his passing isn’t bad either. One lovely ball unlocked the Leicester defensive and supporters will want his form to continue.

Wayne Rooney 5 Not one of his finest performances. His midfield role isn’t suiting him as it was before Christmas and he failed to get into the game properly. Passing was off on an all-round frustrating day for the captain.

Angel Di Maria 7 His end product was frustratingly off but otherwise it was a very lively performance from the Argentine. Looked up for it from the off and his pace caused Leicester plenty of problems.

Adnan Januzaj 6 Really grew into the game and showed van Gaal he has a place in the first team. His ease on the ball and agility can be a joy to watch and can be an important outlet this season.

Robin van Persie 7 Definitely one of the Dutchman’s better performances this year. A little rest seemed to do him good, took his goal well and overall performed very well.

Radamel Falcao 7 Another strong performance from the striker. Was in the right place to get a deserved goal and his all-round play once again was excellent.

Patrick McNair 5 Filled in at right-back but United looked a little less solid when he came on, not necessarily his fault though. Will have tougher tests.

Juan Mata 5 Game was dead by the time he arrived and didn’t have much of a chance to make a real impact.

James Wilson N/A Will almost certainly start on Tuesday and got nothing more than a cameo today.
