Marnick Vermijl lined up by Sheffield Wednesday

Sheffield Wednesday want to sign Marnick Vermijl from Manchester United on transfer deadline day.

As reported last night by Pete O’Rourke and this morning by both BBC Radio Sheffield journalist Rob Staton and the Daily Mail, the 23-year-old Belgian right-back is expected to join Sheffield Wednesday today.

There has been no mention of whether any deal for Vermijl would be on loan or permanent but given that he has only made one appearance under Louis van Gaal in the 4-0 defeat to MK Dons, despite there being opportunities at right-back, it looks like Vermijl doesn’t have a future at Man United under Van Gaal.

Last week, a move to Belgian side Lokeren collapsed for Vermijl but now that Sheffield Wednesday have come into the equation, Vermijl has another opportunity to exit Man United.

Always one of Man United’s most consistent players at U21s level, many thought Vermijl would have been given more chances with Man United’s first-team but it never quite worked out for him despite a strong loan spell at Dutch side NEC Nijmegen last season.
