The rise and rise of David de Gea at Man Utd

by Richard Laverty

Despite the fact Manchester United are sitting pretty in third in the Premier League and brought in an array of new signings during the summer including Angel Di Maria and Radamel Falcao, David de Gea has stood out as United’s player of the season.

Even under David Moyes whilst Adnan Januzaj was lighting up Old Trafford, De Gea was continuing his rapid improvement towards becoming one of the best goalkeepers in the league and the world.

Now, a video by the ever popular United compilation maestro Aditya Radhod shows just how far De Gea has come since arriving at Old Trafford as a teenager in 2011.

De Gea’s first few months at Old Trafford were difficult from a physicality point of view but his shot stopping ability was never in doubt.
Even right at the start, he made some very good saves in the 8-2 win against Arsenal and 3-1 win over Chelsea before turning his season around in the reverse fixture, making a superb save from future team-mate Juan Mata in the last minute at Stamford Bridge.

This season, De Gea was almost single-handedly responsible for United’s wins against the likes of Everton, Arsenal, Liverpool and Stoke and can now be relied upon to deal with anything the opposition throw at him.

Jesus loves but Dave saves (and hopefully signs a new contract).

Whilst there is continuing speculation about his future and a move back to Spain with Real Madrid either this summer or next, there is no doubt De Gea has now established himself at the top level alongside the likes of Manuel Neuer and Thibaut Courtois.
