Mendes: De Gea will not leave Man United this year

David de Gea will stay at Manchester United next season his agent Jorge Mendes has told the BBC.

The future of De Gea is a cause of genuine concern for Man United fans as he only has 18 months left on his contract and Real Madrid are already circling like vultures, with the long-term position of Iker Casillas still in doubt at the Santiago Bernabeu.

However, regardless of any interest, Mendes insists De Gea is happy at Man United at the moment and intends to see his contract out at the very least.

“He has one year left on his contract and I think that he will stay in Manchester,” Mendes said.

“The player will decide, but he’s happy there, at the moment.”

Getting De Gea to sign a new contract is the single most important piece of business Man United will conduct in the next 12 months and Mendes’ comments are certainly the clearest indication yet that the Spanish goalkeeper has no intention of leaving United, not before his current contract expires at least.

Man United will do everything in their power to make sure De Gea stays at the club and rightly so. At 24, he is one of the best goalkeepers in the world on form and is only continuing to get better.
