Louis van Gaal has revealed Paddy McNair has signed a new contract extension at Manchester United.

McNair has impressed in recent games having made the step up from the U21s this season and has been rewarded with a new deal.

Speaking about the youngster, Van Gaal said: “Paddy McNair, now, is coming from out of the youth, he has extended his contract, so he is a Manchester United player.”

McNair started at right-back against Cambridge on Tuesday after having a small taste of the position against Leicester City last weekend and the 19-year-old produced a good performance in the FA Cup tie where really stood out in the role.

His pace bothered the League Two side and he wasn’t afraid to come inside and create things himself. He ended up doing just that for Man United’s first goal, with a great ball during the move for Juan Mata‘s goal.

Fans were delighted for McNair and there have been calls for him to start against West Ham United this weekend but Van Gaal will know that the Hammers present a much tougher challenge.

That being said, McNair started against West Ham at Old Trafford and was extremely impressive, so Van Gaal may decide to play the Northern Irishman.
