Valdes once again left waiting for Man Utd debut

by Ben Topliss

Victor Valdes was again made to wait for his first team debut as Louis van Gaal opted to continue with David de Gea in goal for the fifth round FA Cup win against Cambridge United.

Van Gaal might have been wary of the League Two side given the 0-0 draw in the first game but Cambridge rarely got the ball forward during the replay, although they did hit the post early on.

It is easy to look back on the clash in hindsight but the tie would have been a perfect one for Valdes to make his debut in. It begs the question – when will we see Valdes in action?

The former Barcelona keeper has already played for the Man United U21s and gave a rousing speech to his young teammates before a game against Liverpool. It is unlikely that Valdes will start in the Premier League with De Gea in such good form, so it’s hard to see where Valdes fits in apart from on the bench.

Man United will travel to Preston North End in the fifth round of the FA Cup and if the 33-year-old does not feature in that game, you get the feeling he may have to settle for a place on the bench all season.
