Man Utd expected to sign marquee striker this summer

Manchester United are expected to sign a centre-forward this summer but the Daily Mail’s Ian Ladyman doesn’t believe it will be Radamel Falcao.

The Colombian is currently on loan at Man United and his indifferent season so far has raised doubts as to whether Louis van Gaal will bring him in an a permanent basis.

Ladyman feels United need somebody of Costa or Aguero’s ilk in order to be considered title contenders once again.

“I also expect them to spend heavily on a centre forward,” Ladyman told The Peoples Person.

“I can’t see Falcao staying and that only leaves Van Persie – past his best – Wilson – still young – and. Rooney, who Van Gaal does not see as a centre forward anymore. United need someone in the class of Costa or Aguero if they are to re-establish themselves as a genuine force anytime soon.”

No matter what way you look at it, United signing Falcao in the summer would be a risk even if he had a storming end to the season, and Man United are certainly going to be in need of a new striker soon enough.

Robin van Persie is 31 and getting no younger while Wayne Rooney is 29. Only James Wilson has longevity when it comes to age which means United could soon be in need of more strikers. Of course, this is all on the premise that Van Gaal doesn’t want to sign Falcao, 29, but he’s no spring chicken either.

There is set to be another big shake-up at Man United this summer and it’s going to be interesting to see what Van Gaal decides to do with Falcao and his other strikers.
