Van Gaal keen to promote more youngsters at Man Utd

Louis van Gaal has brought through plenty of youngsters this seasonĀ at Manchester United and has every intention of continuing that trend next year.

The likes of Paddy McNair and Tyler Blackett have burst through and are now full members of the first-team squad and there are others who are pushing for their opportunity including the likes of Ben Pearson and Joe Rothwell who are both currently out on loan at Barnsley and Blackpool respectively.

Competition for places may be fierce but Van Gaal’s affection for giving young players an opportunity is something he wants to continue having been impressed by the U18s performance in the FA Youth Cup.

“Yes, I was impressed by the performance against Hull,” he said.

“I was very impressed and I have seen a lot of players who at the end can be a possibility in the first team…I want to give this talent a chance, maybe before the end of the season.”

The likes of Timothy Fosu Mensah and Callum Gribbin would have caught Van Gaal’s eye in the FA Youth Cup game against Hull City, particularly Fosu-Mensah who, despite only just turning 17, looked like a fully grown man with is stature, presence and intelligence on the pitch.

Giving young players the chance to prove themselves will always be one of Man United’s longstanding traditions and it’s exciting to know how much Van Gaal buys into that philosophy.
