Ashley Young closing in on full Man Utd return

by Ben Topliss

Ashley Young has edged closer to a full return from injury after playing in Manchester United’s U21s game against Chelsea yesterday.

Dominic Solanke opened the scoring for the London club but Andreas Pereira‘s deflected free-kick and Tom Thorpe’s header sealed victory for United.

Young is making his comeback after being ruled out for a month out with a hamstring injury and he said it felt good to get 59 minutes under his belt:

Young’s injury against Stoke City in December came as a blow to United fans as the Englishman had been thriving in Louis van Gaal‘s wing back system. It shows how far Young has come as many fans were calling for his exit from United last season.

He made a brief cameo against Cambridge United in the FA Cup last week but it appears United are being sensible and easing him back into action.

It is the right policy to take but United fans will be hoping he will be back in the first team soon as his crossing ability and pace could be a strong asset during the second half of the season.
