Jones looked to have rolled his ankle while under pressure in his own six-yard box early on against Burnley and although he did try to play on, it wasn’t long before he was forced into a substitution.
He was understandably disappointed having only recently returned from a shin splits injury and Van Gaal is concerned it could be a knee problem.
“I think, for Jones, we have to wait and see,” Van Gaal told MUTV.
“I think it shall be difficult as he was very disappointed when I spoke with him. Maybe it’s a knee problem so it’s not good.”
As regular as night follows day, Jones and injuries are never too far away from each other. It’s been a recurring cycle ever since he joined from Blackburn Rovers and this latest setback is yet another time where he could face a spell on the sidelines thanks to injury.
It’s a real shame for Jones because his injuries always seem to come at a time where he is beginning to find some form which was the case this time alongside Marcos Rojo.
A prognosis of Jones’ injury is expected to be confirmed by Man United later in the week and we’ll bring you an update as soon as the news breaks.
