Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has paid tribute to Darren Fletcher and Anderson after the duo left Old Trafford.

Fletcher joined West Bromwich Albion on a free transfer on deadline day while Anderson completed a move to Brazilian side Internacional after being released by Man United.

Although the pair were deemed surplus to requirements, van Gaal feels they will be missed in the dressing room.

Both Anderson and Fletcher were popular figures within the team and many current United players took to social media to wish them good luck.

Despite their popularity it was the right time for the pair to leave given their fortunes took a turn for the worse towards the end of their time at United.

Fletcher recovered from a serious illness to return to the United first team but his performances deteriorated this season and he looked a shadow of the player he once was.

Anderson became something of a joke figure at United with some increasingly poor performances for the club after initially impressing during a promising debut season.

Both players were big personalities at United and we wish them well at their new clubs.
