Manchester United’s Andreas Pereira hails Chris Smalling after unlikely brace

Manchester United’s Andreas Pereira has hailed Chris Smalling after the defender’s goalscoring heroics against Burnley on Wednesday.

Smalling came on for Phil Jones after just five minutes and scored with his first touch before adding a second on the stroke of half-time.

Robin van Persie scored a late penalty to secure an important three points as United ran out 3-1 winners.

Despite the result it was a difficult game for United and Pereira congratulated Smalling on his match-winning performance:

The scoreline suggested that the win against Burnley was a routine one for United but it was anything but.

Sean Dyche’s side were fearless and hurried United in possession, particularly during an impressive first half showing.

Danny Ings levelled the scoreline for Burnley and they could have easily gone in front but missed several good chances.

United will have to play much better if they are to secure Champions League football next season.
