Manchester United’s Chris Smalling records perfect ten rating with WhoScored

Manchester United defender Chris Smalling has been showered in praise following his match-winning performance against Burnley on Wednesday night.

The 25-year-old scored with his first touch after replacing Phil Jones early on in the game before adding a second goal just before half-time.

The performance came as a shock as Smalling has suffered from plenty of shaky moments this season and the fact he scores once in a blue moon.

Smalling’s display earned him a perfect ten rating on WhoScored.com, becoming the first Premier League defender to do so since Rafael against Wigan Athletic in 2009:

United fans were equally as impressed and voted Smalling as the club’s Man of the Match:

It appears Smalling has turned things around and Louis van Gaal now has plenty of things to think about given the indifferent form of Radamel Falcao and Robin van Persie.

The Englishman has scored as many goals in 2015 as Sergio Aguero so it is abundantly clear that he must be played up front if United are to prosper as they head into the tail end of the season.
